What is a CD4 T cell count?
This is a test to count the number of CD4+ T cells in a sample of blood. CD4+ T cells are a type of white blood cell that fights infections. When HIV enters a person’s CD4+ T cell, it uses the cell to make copies of itself. This process destroys the CD4+ T cells, weakening the immune system and making it harder for your body to fight infections.
